Dissident Assemblies is a group exhibition curated by the KINGS committee and featuring artists with social and culturally focused practices. The exhibition will look at KINGS Artist-Run through a site oriented approach, engaging with the physical, archival and administrative infrastructure of the gallery. The exhibition aims to consider the operations and mechanisms of KINGS as a social space that is concurrently defined by its building, geographic location and public.
The exhibition will mark the 15th birthday of KINGS Artist-run and will include artist talks and a publication. KINGS has specifically invited artists whose practice reflects a critical approach to site through pedagogical, performative, sculptural and socially engaged practices.
The committee has engaged with practitioners that offer valuable insights into social and cultural processes. The project is thus insistently plural, potentially ephemeral and a self-reflexive engagement with history and time. Participating artists include Sean Dockray with Benjamin Forster, Simone Slee, Makiko Yamamoto, Kim Donaldson, Katie West, Yuval Rosinger and DUDSPACE presenting Lou Hubbard.
